That’s it, I’m OVER studs. This bag from my beloved Givenchy has put me over the edge. I don’t have many studded bags but the few that I have I’m going to put in storage (except my Hermes Medor clutches– those are timeless and I’ll use them regardless of trend). This had the potential of being a simple chic flap bag but the mixture of pointy (not to mention dangerous) studs with stars, grommets and logo is just too much for me. In fact, the studs are so heavy it’s causing the entire bag to sag. And you know we do not like saggy bags. This is perfect, however, for the ultimate trendy fashion victim. If you want the world to know you own a Givenchy and that you are a trendoid– get this asap.

I adore Givenchy bags but am not blinded when they make a misstep (although am concerned staring at this bag may actually blind me). But even the most fabulous of brands have off moments so I’m usually willing to give concessions but this is so beyond my comprehension of ugly that I am at a loss for words. The graphics printed on sheepskin is what bothers me most but the design is also boring for what I’ve come to expect from Givenchy. A single strap on the back for a large doctor style bag with zippered opening? So when you open it all your belongings can tumble out? The tiny pouchy thing under the exterior pocket makes no sense either, an afterthought perhaps? Considering most Givenchy bags are under $1500 unless seriously loaded up with hardware, this is outrageously priced at $2,406! It has been a while since I’ve seen a truly original design that makes sense. I am so impressed with how time and again Givenchy has wowed me with simple yet unique bags. This hobo has an architectural element to it, it seems so very engineered but it is not fussy or muddled. The V cut out under the handles is super smart, it maintains the right proportions of the handles to go with the overall design but it allows room for an actual arm to fit in. Designers do a shorter handle because it looks better on the shelf but then you take it home and hate them for it. The sides unzip to expand the girth but I love that it also adds another focal point – it looks great both zipped up or down. The leather is slightly crinkled, also comes in black and a denim which are way more crinkly, which I don’t like. The denim (which they call navy) is really bad, looks like acid wash jeans. We love Gerard Darel and I am so glad to see an exotic done on a casual everyday bag. How much more fabulous can it be to be able to walk around and do your daily mundane things with a super amazing exotic? So, welcome to 2009 everyone. Today is the first day back to work for most yet it’s a sluggish start for me because we went from 85 degrees on Saturday to 31 degrees today (Monday) here in Dallas. My body is really confused and doesn’t know if it should be in a bikini or a snowsuit. It’s as if mother nature is telling us to move home to LA though my hubby quite enjoys experiencing all four seasons, even if it’s in one weekend. But enough of my rambling. During my hunt for interesting bags, I came across the Chloe Paraty (which I love in white or black python) in pink leather. You might crucify me for this but the leather version of the Paraty just does not do it for me– no matter what color (even my beloved pink!). Have you seen this bag in leather as opposed to python? It’s as stiff as the Edith (I loved it until I put on my shoulder) but bulkier than the Paddington (still my fave Chloe). I do like the construction of the bag– its shape is amusing, the hardware subtle yet pleasing and the rolled edges resemble a structured bag without the formality of one but I only like it in python– so soft and supple, the way this bag is meant to be. Some of you complained that our love of exotic skin has blinded us– all I have to say is bag designers should “MAKE BETTER LEATHER BAGS”. Woah, that felt good.
